Clori at the "Global Mediterranean. Postcolonial music histories" conference
On July 9, 2025, Davide Pulvirenti (University of Rome Tor Vergata) presented Clori – Archivio della cantata italiana at the international conference Global Mediterranean. Postcolonial Music Histories (16th–20th Centuries), organized by the IMS – International Musicological Society in Valencia.
The paper offered an overview of the project, with a particular focus on the Mediterranean libraries currently catalogued and on a representative case study: an anonymous cantata preserved in Grottaferrata, which reimagines the figure of the Calabrian-Turkish corsair Uccialì with a distinctively “orientalizing” tone.
The presentation concluded with an invitation to collaborate in expanding the census and promoting the cantata repertoire within Mediterranean contexts.
